SUPPORT PACKAGE FOR UNIVERSITIES AND STUDENTS BY THE UK GOVERNMENT

Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, many students in the United Kingdom have been joining the distance learning and online courses as an alternative of tangibly attending schools and universities. #ukvisa #ukimmigration #uktier4visa The disease has also caused a radical decline in the number of potential students planning to come to the United Kingdom for the imminent academic year which is due to start in September 2020. The United Kingdom Government has therefore declared a variety of measures to safeguard students and universities from the impact of the Covid-19. The United Kingdom Government has publicized that student number controls will be temporarily put in place for full-time, undergraduate, United Kingdom and European Union students for the 2020/21 academic year, and the Education Secretary Gavin Williamson, will have the option to allot an additional 10,000 places on top of this limit, of which 5,000 will be for students studying nursing or allied health courses. This action will not apply to non-European Union students, which could assist international students’ university admission possibilities due to the decline in opposing domestic and European Union applications. The United Kingdom Government has also pledged to carry on working with the Universities and Colleges Admission Service (UCAS) to “bolster the Clearing process this year”. A new support service will be initiated which can propose different chances to future students based on their accomplishments and interests, should they desire to modify their choice of Higher Education provider or course. Education Secretary Gavin Williamson further recognised the important role made by international students to Higher Education in the United Kingdom on numerous stages and underlined their social, cultural and economic importance. The United Kingdom Government will apply discretion to make sure that under the Covid-19 pandemic, international students are not adversely squeezed if they are not able to obey with certain visa rules due to the virus outbreak.
