NEW UK STUDENT IMMIGRATION ROUTES OPENING FROM OCT. 5, 2020
Are you planning to study in the UK anytime soon? You will be happy to know that the UK government is opening the new UK student immigration routes earlier than expected. International students can apply for a visa from Oct. 5, 2020 onwards, ahead of its previous date of Jan. 1, 2021.
The Student route and Child Student route will unlock an indefinite number of international students, including those from Europe arriving into the UK to study after the end of Brexit transition period. This shadows the UK government’s commitment to present a points-based immigration system in 2021. It plans to extend equal prospect to all foreign talent in the UK post-Brexit.
These visa routes are likely to draw the brightest intellectuals from all over the world. The UK government statement on, GOV.UK website states, “We realize that as a result of Covid-19, some international students are deciding to postpone their entry onto courses in the UK until the spring semester of 2021. Announcing these new visa paths routes now signifies that students will be able to benefit from the new modernized process whilst still giving sponsors time to familiarize after their autumn intake.”
Tim Bradshaw CEO of Russell Group greeted the UK student immigration update, stating, “We will carry on to work with the UK government to make sure our visa system remains adaptable and reactive to developing issues, such as those developing from the Covid-19 pandemic.”
The step targets to appeal approximately 600,000 international students to UK universities by 2030.
Furthermore, the statement also mentioned, “We also want to make sure we keep the brightest and the best students to resume to contribute to the UK post-study, which is why we are introducing the Graduate route in the summer of 2021.” This permits graduates with a UK degree to stay on to work for two years, or three years if they have a PhD.
