TWO NEW UPDATES ANNOUNCED BY UK HOME OFFICE ON 5TH OCTOBER, 2020

In this video update, we will talk specifically about the new updates regarding UK Student Visa and EUSS Scheme.




UK Visas and Immigration on 5th October 2020 published new set of changes for UK immigration applications, including the launch of new visa routes under the new points-based immigration system planned to take effect from 1 January 2021.

Student visa

International students and graduates desiring to study in the UK from January 2021 can currently apply for the new student visa routes that the new UK immigration system will offer. These visa routes are accessible to all international students, along with EU, EEA, and Swiss nationals and they can apply six months in advance before their course starts.

These UK Visa routes include:




Student visa route

This visa route substitutes the Tier 4 (General) student visa and is accessible for those potential students who are 18 and above and who desire to begin their college studies or undergraduate in the UK.

Student visa Applicants must establish specific conditions:

  • They possess an offer to study on their chosen course of study
  • They hold a reasonable understanding of oral and written English; and
  • They have satisfactory funds to pay for the course fees and monetarily support themselves at the same time as studying

UK Child Student visa route

This route substitutes the Tier 4 (Child) student visa and is accessible for those children who are between 4 and 17 years old who desire to study at a private school in the UK.

Applicants for UK Child Student visa must demonstrate evidence of the following:

  • They possess an unconditional offer from an independent school
  • They have approach to adequate funds to pay for the school fees and monetarily back themselves through their studies; and
  • Written approval from their parents or guardian to study in the UK




All foreign nationals arriving in to the UK after 31st December 2020 must apply and attain a decision for a visa to study in the UK. This will also apply to those commencing their courses remotely in autumn 2020. The start dates of these student visas would commencing be from 1st January 2021 onwards.

EU/EEA Citizens

For nationals from the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein currently living in the UK before 31st December 2020, both them and their families can apply for the EU Settlement Scheme (EUSS) if they desire to remain in the UK past 30th June 2021.

Further UK Immigration updates

Expenses by UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) for visa applications or immigration associated enquiries have been reduced by approximately 50%. This denotes that people trying to contact UKVI via phone call for their immigration matters will now be charged £0.69 per minute and emails will amount to £2.74 per question inquired.

Additional assistance has been given for those who require technical assistance with their Visa applications for UKVI and EUSS routes. Applicants who are not technologically savvy and need help with their online applications or do not have internet availability can gain from Assisted Digital support for an extended two-year period.




Even though individuals may still utilize the UK ID Check App, UK Visa and Citizenship Application Services (UKVCAS) Service Points are currently open to individuals to reserve appointments or make their visa applications. The usual UK Home Office methods are slowly being restored to normal.
